Mobile App
RealBooks works on any mobile device through your browser — no app store download required. The interface is fully responsive, so you get the same features on your phone that you have on your desktop.
Getting Started on Mobile
Section titled “Getting Started on Mobile”Open your mobile browser and go to app.realbooks.io. Log in with the same credentials you use on desktop.
That’s it. Everything syncs in real time — a transaction you categorize on your phone shows up immediately on your laptop, and vice versa.
What Works Great on Mobile
Section titled “What Works Great on Mobile”Check Your Portfolio on the Go
Section titled “Check Your Portfolio on the Go”Pull up your dashboard to see total portfolio value, equity, and NOI while you’re at a property or meeting with a lender. Having your numbers at your fingertips makes a difference when you’re negotiating a deal or answering a partner’s question.
Log Expenses in the Field
Section titled “Log Expenses in the Field”At a property and just paid a contractor? Open RealBooks, snap a photo of the receipt, and PennyAI will extract the vendor, amount, date, and category. It takes about 10 seconds — much better than stuffing the receipt in your pocket and hoping you remember it at tax time.
Review Imported Transactions
Section titled “Review Imported Transactions”Bank-linked transactions come in throughout the day. Use a few spare minutes to review and approve categorizations. Staying on top of this daily (even for just a minute or two) keeps your books clean without a big end-of-month reconciliation session.
Update Project Status
Section titled “Update Project Status”If you’re running a rehab, update task statuses and log project expenses while you’re on-site. This keeps your team (and your budget tracking) current without waiting until you’re back at your desk.
Check Notifications
Section titled “Check Notifications”Stay on top of action items — new transactions that need review, project milestones, or alerts from PennyAI about categorization suggestions.
Add RealBooks to Your Home Screen
Section titled “Add RealBooks to Your Home Screen”For quick access without opening your browser first, add RealBooks to your phone’s home screen. It launches in a standalone window that looks and feels like a native app.
iPhone (Safari)
Section titled “iPhone (Safari)”- Open app.realbooks.io in Safari (this doesn’t work from Chrome or other browsers on iOS)
- Tap the Share button (the square with the arrow pointing up) at the bottom of the screen
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen
- Name it “RealBooks” and tap Add
You’ll see a RealBooks icon on your home screen. Tap it to launch directly into the app.
Android (Chrome)
Section titled “Android (Chrome)”- Open app.realbooks.io in Chrome
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner
- Tap Add to Home screen (or Install app if prompted)
- Confirm the name and tap Add
iPad and Tablets
Section titled “iPad and Tablets”The same process works on tablets. RealBooks adapts its layout to take advantage of the larger screen — you’ll see the full sidebar navigation and wider data tables, similar to the desktop experience.
Tips for Mobile Use
Section titled “Tips for Mobile Use”- Use receipt scanning regularly. The best time to capture a receipt is right when you get it. PennyAI processes it in seconds, and you’ll never lose a deduction again.
- Review transactions while waiting. Waiting in line, sitting in a parking lot, or on hold with a contractor? Open RealBooks and knock out a few transaction categorizations.
- Bookmark the dashboard. If you don’t add it to your home screen, at least bookmark
app.realbooks.iofor quick access.
Offline Access
Section titled “Offline Access”RealBooks requires an internet connection to load and sync data. If you’re at a property with spotty service, you can still view pages that have already loaded — but new data won’t sync until you’re back online.
Desktop vs. Mobile
Section titled “Desktop vs. Mobile”All RealBooks features are available on both desktop and mobile. A few things are easier on desktop due to screen size:
| Task | Best On |
|---|---|
| Reviewing large transaction lists | Desktop |
| Generating and reviewing tax reports | Desktop |
| Running ad hoc reports with filters | Desktop |
| Logging a receipt or expense | Mobile |
| Checking portfolio metrics | Either |
| Updating project statuses | Either |
| Approving transaction categories | Either |
